| Q & A with Toni Smoke Q: Where does your artist name come from? A: The brain of Mr Humbug. Q: Tell us more about your musical roots! A: My mum brought me up listening to Motown records. Anything Soul and with a good break. Q: How did you start producing music? A: I started learning keyboard from an early age and I learned guitar and drums. At 12 years old I started forming and playing in various punk bands then in 1998 I started producing, Dj’ing and listening to breakbeat / Drum and Bass and House with some Roland 303s and a Mc505 and the worst apple Mac that ever existed. But since then I have built up my equipment and done an Audio Engineering Diploma. Q: Are you also a DJ? A: Yes since 98. Q: Do you work together with other artists also? E.g. Remixes? A: I work with some Mc’s and have added some influence on some tracks but seem to be best focused myself. I like to remix tracks that I like myself. Q: Do you have any special musical aims? A: Try and Influence the next generation of Producers so that they can progress and take every thing up to a new level. Q: What do you think of the contemporary popular music which is played by normal radio stations? A: Piss-Poor Q: What have you read recently (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you? A: The theories on 2012. Q: What is your all-time favourite track? Why? A: LTJ Bukem – Atlantis. Its probably my favourite just now cos I was just listening to it. Q: What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect? A: Climbing trees and hard drink. |
